Knife Party say goodbye to Pendulum

Recently Rob Swire of Knife Party informed Tripple J that he and band mate Gareth McGrillen are saying goodbye to Pendulum for good.

For those of you who were unaware, Knife Party formed in mid 2011 as a duo between Pendulum members Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen. after their debute performance in August 2011 in Ibiza, Knife Party have shot to unparalled success within the dance scene.

Swire commented on the success of Knife Party and not wishing to continue Pendulum, saying “The Knife Party thing is going so well we don’t really feel like going back to junior school anytime soon” (http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/musicnews/s3526471.htm)

In one respect, this is sad news for Pendulum fans who will no longer have the chance to see Pendulum perform again. But All good things msut come to an end and considering the drum and bass scene is not as strong as it was 10 years ago when Pendulum rose to international fame, it is only natural that Rob and Gareth move with the times and continue producing music relevant to the current market needs.
Swire commented on this market change, stating that “it was time for something new and the music scene itself had changed”

In closing, lets have a moments silence and appreciate one of the greatest tracks Pendulum ever produced, Slam.

NEW HIP HOP COLLECTIVE – DEAD CITY ZENS – DCZ

Dead City Zens, or DCZ, is the burgeoning collective of Sydney’s most lethal underground hip hop artists. Part label, part collaboration factory, part street gang, DCZ is the imprint you’ll see on some of the freshest releases coming out of the Sydney area. The four names you need to watch to keep with the program are Deadbeat & Hazy, Big Dumb Kid, Subsketch, and Old Men of Moss Mountain, who together got this madness underway.

Hailing from NZ, Deadbeat spits fuzzy and furious fables, commanding the stage and passing the peace pipe while his partner in crime Hazy never lets up with his gritty and banging dub beats.

Big Dumb Kid takes you from his side-scrolling past into the neon hell of the future with emphatic and unforgettable rhymes, dropped over his electro-gangster production that earned him a “must-hear new producer” accolade this year.

Subsketch, having survived the hip hop wilderness of Adelaide and with a handful of purring albums under his belt, ranges everywhere from melodica-playing, Tom Waits-esque tales of dark cities to straight up balls to wall beats and rhythms, busting out a phenomenal beatbox ability if you’re lucky.

Old Men of Moss Mountain, with their unique brand of Nerd Rap Gangsta Forest Pop, will always surprise and seduce their listeners and crowds, mixing up furry beats and fast flows with huge harmonies, they need to be seen to be believed.

So with these hoodlums all releasing new cuts in the upcoming months (and having a backlog you‘d better check out) and with some incredible new artists waiting in the wings to join the DCZ cult, you’d have to be a maniac to miss anything brandishing the flag of the Dead City Zens.

The Offspring are joking, right?

Tags

Its been a long four years since we’ve heard even a peep out of the old rockers and there’s probably a good reason for that considering the poor reception of their last album Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace.

One would think with four years off The Offspring might have had a chance to re-evaluate their position in the industry and come up with something that makes an impact.
In a way, Cruising California does that. Sadly the public response is so overwhelmingly bad that it is almost assured that this newly released single from the upcoming album, Days Go By, will go down as one of the worst pieces of pop trash to surface in the last twenty years.

A quick read through the forum hosted on offspring.com provides a glowing example of the confusion fans felt upon hearing the auto-tuned, Katy Perry-esque pop song.
On one hand some fans believe it was a joke, just as Pretty Fly was almost fourteen years ago.
Others simply couldn’t believe that The Offspring would stoop so low arguring that Cruising California is not creative. “Creative is Pretty Fly or When you’re in prison. You’e never heard a song that can be compared to those. Mixing up every possible music style and still sounding like a plain pop is not creative.”

Regardless of the intent, the song has stirred up enough of a reaction to ensure that it does become a hit one way or another.
The lead single from the upcoming album feels a lot more like The Offspring that we all know and love, rather more polished and moulded for a wider audience this time. We can only hope that the rest of the album follows suit with the lead single Days Go By and retain some credibility.

Days Go By, produced by Bob Rock is set to be released on June 26 through Columbia Records.

Amon Tobin @ Sydney Opera House

Following sold out tours across Europe and North America, Amon Tobin’s audiovisual spectacle ISAM came to Sydney Opera House last saturday and unfortunately, like many i missed out on his performance as part of Vivid 2012.
Thankfully, the nice folks at vivid provided us with a live stream of the entire show via youtube.

In collaboration V Squared Labs and Leviathan, the Brazilian born producer has constructed a custom-built 25ft, 3 ton cubic installation, acting as a morphing multidimensional screen creating a visual performance that is second to none. Even viewing this performance on youtube can only be described as awesome.

Sadly no video rip of the performance has surfaced but a two part audio stream is available which i strongly suggest you all check out while we cross our fingers and hope a video rip will be released.

Even if you are not a fan of Glitch, Dubstep, Breaks or Drum N Bass, it is nearly impossible to not appreciate the skill and genius that has gone into both the music and visual performance that was ISAM.

If you want a hd rip of Amon Tobin performing ISAM:
